Homily of Archbishop in the Te Deum of 25/05/2003
“And then, a certain lawyer stood up and asked Jesus to test him,” Teacher, what do I have to do to inherit eternal life? “Jesus asked in turn:” What is written in the law? How do you read it? “He replied:” ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself. ”
“You have answered exactly, did Jesus; work well and attain life”.
But the doctor of the law, to justify its intervention, asked this question: “Who is my neighbor?”. Jesus returned to speak and said, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho and fell among thieves, which stripped him of everything, he was wounded and departed, leaving him half dead. Casually walked down the same road a priest : saw it and kept going. came along also a Levite saw him and kept going. But a Samaritan who was traveling that way, going with him, saw him and was moved. then came and bandaged his wounds, covering them with oil and wine, then put him on his own beast, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the owner of the lodge, saying, “Take care of him, and what you spend more, I will pay to return “Which of the three do you think was neighbor man assaulted by robbers?” “The one who showed him mercy,” replied the doctor. And Jesus said, “Go, and proceed in the same way you”.
(Luke 10, 25-37)
The Easter season is a call to be reborn from above. At the same time is a challenge to make a profound stake, a whole new meaning to our lives, as individuals and as a nation, from the joy of the risen Christ to enable outbreak in the same frailty of our flesh, hoping to live as a true Community. From this intimate mystery of joy and shared a sun felt resurgence of May to the Argentines, as always, we want to see as a flash memory that is resurrection. It is the call of Jesus Christ hoping to resurface our vocation as citizens builders of a new social link. Called again, it is written, however, always as the fundamental law of our being: that society is heading for the pursuit of the common good and, from this end, and again rebuilt its political and social order.
The parable of the Good Samaritan is an icon illuminator, able to bring out the background option we must take to rebuild this country hurts us. Faced with so much pain, so much hurt before, the only way out is to be like the Good Samaritan. Every other option ends either side of the robbers or the side of those who pass by, without tenderness for the pain hurt the way. And “the country should not be for us, as I said a poet, but our pain that is worn on the side.” The parable of the Good Samaritan shows us what initiatives can rebuild a community from men and women who feel and act as true partners (in the old sense of fellow citizens). Men and women who own and accompany the fragility of others, who do not allow the erection of a society of exclusion, but neighbors are close-up and rehabilitated, and the fallen, for the Common Good is the same Parable time warns about certain attitudes that only look at themselves and not take over the insistent demands of human reality.
Since the beginning of the life of the Church, and especially by the Cappadocian Fathers, the Good Samaritan was identified with Christ himself. He is the one who is our neighbor, which rises from the margins of the human life, which puts it on his shoulders, is responsible for your pain and abandonment and rehabilitation. The story of the good Samaritan, we say clearly, no slides a teaching abstract ideals, and is limited to the functionality of a social moral-ethical. But it is the living Word of God that lowers and approaches to touch our daily brittleness. That Word reveals an essential characteristic of the man, so often forgotten: that we are made for the fullness of being, therefore we can not live indifferent to the pain, can not let no one is “on the side of life”, marginalized dignity. This will be in-dignar. This should make us lose our serenity to “alter us” by human pain, our neighbor, our neighbor, our partner in this community of Argentina. In this installment we find our vocation existential, we will worthy of this soil, which never had a vocation to marginalize anyone.
The story is presented with the linearity of a simple story, but has all the dynamics of this internal struggle that occurs in the development of our identity, in all existence “launched the road” to homeland. I mean, we hit posts on the way, inevitably, with the injured man. Today and increasingly that is hurt most. In humanity and in our country. The inclusion or exclusion of wounded roadside all projects defined economic, political, social and religious. We all face the choice every day to be good Samaritans or indifferent commuters who pass by. And if we extend the look to the totality of our history and the length and breadth of the country, all are or have been like these characters: we all have some wounded, some robber, who pass some long and some of the Good Samaritan. It is remarkable how the differences in the characters of the story are completely transformed when confronted with the painful manifestation of the fallen, and humiliated. There is no distinction between resident of Judea and Samaria dweller, no priest or merchant; simply are two types of men: those who take care of the pain and those who pass by, those who bow down on recognizing and distracting the eye and accelerate its pace. Indeed, our many masks and disguises our labels fall: it’s time for the truth, we prefer to touch our wounds? Would we be inclined to carry us to shoulder each other? This is the challenge of the present time, that we should not be afraid. In times of crisis becomes acute option: we could say that at this point, anyone who is not a robber or anyone who does not pass or is hurt or is putting on their shoulders to some wounded.
The story of the Good Samaritan is repeated: it becomes increasingly apparent that our social and political apathy is doing to make this earth a desolate road, where internal disputes and looting opportunities we are leaving all marginalized thrown side of the road. In the parable, the Lord raises no alternative routes, what would become of that wounded or who helped, whether anger or vengeance had gained ground in their hearts? Jesus relies on the best of the human spirit and the Parable encourages you to adhere to God’s love, hurt and reimburse to build a society worthy of the name.
The parable begins with the robbers. The starting point is chosen by the Lord as an assault consummated. But it makes us pause to lament the fact, directs our gaze to the robbers. We know them. We have seen progress in our country the dense shadows of neglect, violence used for petty interests of power and division, there is also the ambition sought public office as spoils. The question before the robbers could be: What shall we make of our national life a story that stays in this part of the parable? Will we pulled the injured to run each to shelter from violence or to prosecute the thieves? Will always hurt the justification of our irreconcilable divisions of our cruel indifference of our internal strife? The poetic prophecy of Martin Fierro should warn us: our eternal hatred and sterile individualism and open the door to the outside we devour
The people of our nation demonstrates, again and again, clearly intends to respond to their vocation to be Good Samaritans to each other: again entrusted in our democratic system despite its weaknesses and shortcomings, and we see further efforts solidarity to re-weave a society that is fractured. Our people responded with silence disolutorias Cruz and supports proposals to limit uncontrolled violence who are incarcerated criminal chaos.
The Parable us put the look, redobladamente, which pass by.
This dangerous indifference to spend long, innocent or not, contempt product or a sad distraction, for the characters of the priest and the Levite an equally sad reflection that distance Slicer, many are tempted to put off the reality and the will to be a nation. There are many ways to pass by complement: an inward, ignore others, be indifferent, other: one look outside. Regarding the latter long way to go in some is unblemished living with an eye out for our reality, always yearning characteristics of other companies, not to integrate them into our cultural elements, but to replace them. As if a national project impostado instead tried to force pushing the other in that sense we can read today historical experiences of rejection effort to gain space and resources to grow with identity, preferring the opportunism of smuggling, speculation and purely financial spoliation of our nature and even worse, of our people.
Even intellectually, remains the inability to accept own characteristics and processes, as have many people, insisting on a contempt of identity. It would be naive not to see more than ideologies or refinements cosmopolitan behind these trends emerge more powerful interests that benefit from the ongoing conflict within our people.
Similar inclination is seen in those who, apparently contrary ideas, delivered the game of petty insults, until the violent clashes, or the familiar sterility of many intelligentsias for which “nothing is salvageable if not like what I think” . What should be a normal course of debate or criticism, he knows a safe place to leave the ideals and common goals, here seems to be manipulated into a permanent state of questioning and confrontation of the most fundamental principles. Is failure to give the benefit of a common minimum project or uncontrollable compulsion who only ally to fulfill his ambition of power?
Tacitly “road bandits” have gotten as allies those who “pass by looking away.” It closes the loop between users and deceive our society for fleecing, and allegedly kept the purity in its critical function, but this system live and enjoy our resources to remain outside or the possibility of chaos to win his own ground.
Let us be deceit, impunity of crime, the use of community institutions for personal or corporate gain and other evils that we banish not have as counterpart the misinformation and permanent disqualification of all, the constant seeding suspect Stretches mistrust and perplexity. The deception of “all bad” is answered with a “no one can fix it.” And, so, feeds disillusionment and despair. Sinking a people in despair is the closure of a perfect vicious circle: the invisible dictatorship of the true interests, those vested interests that took over resources and our ability to think and think.
Everyone from our responsibilities, we must put the nation on their shoulders, because times are shortened. The possible dissolution of caution on other occasions, on this same date homeland. However many were his way of ambition and superficiality, without looking to the side falling: it keeps threatening.
Let us finally to the wounded. Citizens felt like it, wounded and lying beside the road. We are also homeless and destitute disarmed our institutions, fasts and training capacity that patriotism requires.
Every day we start a new era, a new beginning. We do not have to wait all of those who govern us: it would be childish, but rather we must be active in the rehabilitation and aid the wounded country. Today we are faced with a great opportunity to express our religious essence, to feel filial and fraternal benefit from the gift of the nation, with the gift of our people, if other good Samaritans who loaded on it the pain of failure, rather than accentuate hatreds and resentments. As the occasional traveler of our history, only takes desire free, pure and simple of wanting to be Nation, to be consistent and tireless in the work include, to integrate, to raise the fallen. Although the violent automarginen, which only aspire to themselves, broadcasters of confusion and lies. And others will follow the political thinking for their power games, let’s us the best service for all. Start from the bottom and one to push for the most concrete and local, every corner of the country, with the same care that the traveler from Samaria had for every wound of hurt. Do not trust the repeated speeches and reports assumptions about reality. Let us by our rightful reality without fear of pain or impotence, because there is the Risen. Where there was a stone and a tomb was life waiting. Where there was a wasteland our Aboriginal parents and then others who populated our country, they sparked labor and heroism, organization and social protection.
The difficulties encountered are huge opportunity for growth, not sad excuse for subjecting inert favors. Renounce the pettiness and resentment of internismos sterile, endless clashes. Let’s hide the pain of losses and let us take care of our crimes, idleness and lies, because only restorative reconciliation will restore us, and make us lose our fear of ourselves. This is not preaching a vindicator ethicism, but approaching things from an ethical perspective, which is always rooted in reality.
The Samaritan road went without expecting recognition or gratitude. The delivery service was the satisfaction with their God and their lives, and therefore, a must. The people of this nation longs to see this example in those who make public his image: greatness of soul is needed because only the greatness of life and summons awakened soul.
We have no right to indifference and disinterest or look away. We can not “pass” as did the parable. We have responsibility for the hurt that is the Nation and its people. Today begins a new stage in our country deeply marked by fragility: fragility of our poorest brothers and excluded fragility of our institutions, our fragility of social bonds …
Take care of the fragility of our people hurt! Each with its wine, with its oil and his horse.
Take care of the fragility of our country. Each paying out of pocket whatever it takes to make our earth Posada is true for all, without excluding any.
Take care of the fragility of every man, every woman, every child and every senior, with that attitude of solidarity and attentive attitude projimidad the Good Samaritan.
May our Mother, the Virgin of Lujan, who has remained with us and accompanies us along the path of our history as a sign of comfort and hope, hear our prayer walkers, comfort us and encourage us to follow the example of Christ, the burden on their shoulders that our fragility.
